A mother has been awarded a five-figure compensation claim for being wrongly told that she had cancer.

Denise Clarke, underwent treatment for cervical cancer in 2010 receiving radiotherapy around her pelvis to beat the disease.  She was told by NHS Grampian that there was nothing more that Doctors could do to treat her and the huge cancerous mass they discovered in her pelvis.

Faced with terminal cancer, Denise began arrangements for her own funeral and traveled to Spain to an alternative therapy clinic to try and extend her life so she could spend more time with her sons.

However, as months passed Denise became suspicious when her health continued to improve and feel better. After demanding another scan, Denise was told that the growth in her Pelvis was not cancerous, but tissue left over from her treatment.

Denise settled a five-figure compensation claim with NHS Grampian for the misdiagnosis. Speaking to the Daily Mail Newspaper: “I planned my funeral and wrote farewell notes to my boys. It was heartbreaking but I had to do it for my family. No one should have to do that if they don’t need to.

“Hearing them say it was a mistake was amazing – but it doesn’t give us back the two years of our lives that were made absolute hell.”
