A man in his 90’s who died from mesothelioma would have come into contact with asbestos at some point in his life, an inquest heard last Friday (2nd August).

William Traynor died in May this year at his home in Sutton-in-Craven, Yorkshire, shortly after being diagnosed with the disease, which is largely associated with exposure to asbestos.

Mr Traynor’s daughter, Patricia McCormack, said her father had been working as a milkman for the last 22 years of his working life and was unaware that he had ever come into contact with asbestos.
She added that he also worked as a driver in a scrapyard and a mill in Keighley, West Yorkshire, throughout his working life.

Coroner Rob Turnbull concluded that Mr Traynor had died as the result of an industrial disease, but said that it was impossible to say when he had been exposed to asbestos, suggesting that it could have been some years ago.
