A decision will be made on the future of Heanor Memorial Hospital this week, where asbestos dust was discovered during an inspection last year.
The hospital has been closed since the discovery, which happened during a routine inspection by staff. Services were consequently moved to Ilkeston Community Hospital as a temporary measure.
The management team at the NHS Southern Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group have said they were trying to find the “best way forward” for the hospital, which could mean demolishing both the hospital and Wilmott Street health centre to make way for a new million-pound building on the hospital site.
Andy Layzell, the group’s chief officer said: “Since our first meeting in January, more than 1,000 people in the town have been to meetings. Our governing body will now review the outcome of the consultation and come to a final decision at a public meeting.”
The meeting will take place on Friday 24th October in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire. Any questions should be submitted to [email protected]
