An elderly man from Hampshire who began his working life in the shipping industry died as a result of asbestos exposure, an inquest has heard.
John Taylor, from Southampton, died in hospital in August this year after suffering asbestosis.
Southampton Coroner’s Court heard how Mr Taylor worked as a carpenter and joiner, beginning his working life as an apprentice in the shipping industry, where he was involved in the refurbishment of ships.
Deputy Coroner Gordon Denson said: “It is abundantly clear that the cause of death was due to Mr Taylor’s asbestos exposure during his working life.”
He ruled that Mr Taylor died due to an industrial-related disease.
