We’re taking part in On Your Feet Britain (OYFB) this Friday (24th April) and pledging our support for a more active community.

The event, run by Get Britain Standing and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has been set up to tackle the large number of health problems associated with being inactive for long periods of time. It is calling on office workers, who can spend long periods sitting with few breaks, to move around more and have a bit of fun while they’re at it!

The organisers are challenging workers to “get up offa that thing” and take James Brown up on his word, by converting ‘sitting time’ to ‘standing time’, all while raising money for a good cause. Heart disease is just one of the many health risks associated with sitting for long periods and at Russell Worth we are focusing specifically on cases of repetitive strain injuries (RSI) among office workers. We have long been raising awareness of the causes of RSI and office workers are particularly susceptible to developing these problems, due to long periods sitting at desks during the working day.

Gavin Moat, Partner at Russell Worth, said “We are really looking forward to taking part in this event and think it is a fantastic initiative by Get Britain Standing and the BHF.

“It is so important to be raising awareness of the many health risks associated with sitting for long periods, from heart disease to RSI, which we have long been campaigning for.

“The team at Russell Worth are looking forward to taking on the challenge this Friday and seeing just how inventive we can be in our approach!”

The campaign is encouraging workers to follow some simple changes, such as:

  • Standing up when taking phone calls
  • Having a break from the computer every 30 minutes
  • Using the stairs rather than the lift
  • Standing or walking during meetings
  • Eating lunch away from your desk
  • Walking to a colleague’s desk to talk rather than phoning/emailing them
