A conference has been announced by the Royal Society for the prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) to address a number of major health and safety issues facing construction workers in the UK.

The Construction Health and Safety Conference, which will be held at Birmingham’s Crowne Plaza on Thursday 19th March, will address upcoming changes to the Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations as well as a number of topics including hand-arm vibration syndrome, asbestos management strategies and occupational health and wellbeing.

Judith Hackitt, chairman of the Health and Safety Executive will deliver the keynote speech at the event, covering a number of topics including upcoming changes to the CDM regulations, set to come into force on 6th April.

Heather Bryant, director of health, safety and environment at Balfour Beatty, will also be speaking at the event as well as Paul Lynchehaun, from Laing O’Rourke.

Rob Burgon, Workplace Safety Manager at RoSPA, said: “Although health and safety in the UK’s workplaces has never been at a better level, the rules, regulations and best practice is always changing.

“With that in mind, and considering the construction sector remains one of the most dangerous to work in, it’s important to keep abreast of what’s happening in your industry, and to share experience and knowledge with your peers.”
