A man from Cornwall has died after he was exposed to asbestos at his workplace more than half a century ago, an inquest has heard.

David William Lee, from Par, died in December 2012. He was 71 years old.

An inquest into Mr Lee’s death at Truro Coroner’s Court last month heard that he had “a strong working history” of asbestos exposure in the workplace, particularly during his work as an electrician in the 1960’s.

Mr Lee was admitted to hospital in 2001 after he suffered respiratory problems.

A biopsy was carried out and doctors diagnosed Mr Lee with mesothelioma.

Cornwall Coroner Emma Carlyon concluded that the pathologist’s finding of asbestos exposure which lead to mesothelioma was correct and that Mr Lee had been suffering from an underlying heart disease when he died. Dr Carlyon ruled that Mr Lee died from an industrial disease.
