Perrie Edwards from girl band Little Mix has revealed she has no sense of smell. It is thought the singer was born with a rare condition known as congenital anosmia; a condition which has no cure.
“I have never smelt anything,” Perrie said to the BBC, “but I think I smelt coffee once.”
“When people go, ah she’s cooking a Sunday roast, I’m like, how do you know that?”
Congenital anosmia is generally caused by a nasal condition or brain injury.
Approximately 6,000 people in the UK are born with the condition, which can leave affected individuals feeling extremely isolated.
“People are always like, ‘Oh, isn’t that really horrible?’ and I’m like, ‘No’, because I’ve never known what it’s like to smell,” said Perrie. “If I’d have had it and then it disappeared I’d be like, ‘Argh’.
“I wear the same perfume all the time, because everyone says, ‘Oh you smell nice’ and then I’m like, ‘Ah, OK’.”
