The Queen’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament for the forthcoming year included the announcement of a Bill to establish a payment scheme for people diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of workplace exposure to asbestos where their former employer or the employer’s insurance company cannot be traced.
The scheme will be funded by a levy on insurance companies and will be open to anyone in the UK diagnosed with mesothelioma from 25 July 2012.
