A newly launched campaign by The Law Society which aims to tackle compensation given by insurers has been welcomed by Russell Worth solicitors.
The campaign, which uses the strapline ‘Don’t get mugged by an insurer – use a solicitor’, has been launched after an increasing number of personal injury victims have been getting ‘mugged’ by insurance companies, accepting premature offers of compensation which are often a lot lower than the figure they deserve.
In fact, research from the Financial Services Authority, which only became publically available after a freedom of information challenge, has revealed that personal injury claimants who turn down an insurer’s initial offer and take legal advice from a solicitor receive, on average, three times more in compensation.
Over three million people in the UK are injured in an accident every year and this campaign is setting out to raise awareness and urge personal injury victims to not just accept the first offer of compensation they receive from insurers, as this usually means they cannot make any further claims.
The campaign, which will run for six weeks and feature posters on public transport and train stations, radio advertising and a YouTube video, is deliberately taking a bold, humorous and memorable approach to convey an important message.
Chief executive of the Law Society, Desmond Hudson, said “This campaign doesn’t pull any punches, but we need to make a clear message, see your solicitor, don’t accept the insurers’ first offer and don’t deal with claims management companies.
“Pursuing your claim with a solicitor will mean you will get what you are genuinely entitled to.”
