Mesothelioma
One of the most common causes of Mesothelioma is Asbestos. In fact 90% of all cases of mesothelioma are caused by exposure to asbestos. However, it’s the asbestos fibres which cause the irreparable damage to the body’s natural defenses. When asbestos is disturbed or damaged, it can release small fibres into the air that can be breathed into the lungs. Due to the tiny size of the fibres they can make their way into the airways of the lungs where they cause inflammation of the lung tissue. Asbestos fibres travel through the lung tissue and settle in the pleura (the outer lining of the lung) where the fibres embed themselves and over many years mesothelioma develops. You may have developed Mesothelioma from working with Asbestos, if so you may be able to claim if:
- Exposure to asbestos at work
- Suffering poor health
- Unable to work
- Worried about the future for your family
- Need expert legal advice
Occupations more likely to have been exposed to asbestos are:
- Electricians
- Construction workers
- Joiners
- Plumbers
